Things You Shouldn_t Store In the Garage

Many people use their garage for extra storage space, but don’t realise there are some items that shouldn’t be stored in that area. The team here at Quick Fix Garage Door wants you to be safe. We put together a list of things you should not leave in your garage.
1. Propane Tanks For Your Grill
Just about everyone stores their grills in the garage without thinking about the dangers of the propane tank. One of the safety concerns is that you won’t remember to close the valve all the way. Even if you do, some tend to leak propane out.
Propane is not something you want leaking into your garage, especially if you park your car in there. Simply starting the engine could set off a fire. Even if you don’t, it’s best not to risk the off chance of a spark creating a fire.
2. Any Type of Paper
Whether it is your recycling, paper products, files, or any type of paper, it is best to store that inside. Paper makes a great home for bugs and rodents. You will set your garage up for pest problems if you store nesting materials in your garage.
3. Clothing and Bedding
For the same reason you don’t want paper in your garage, you also don’t want material in there. Rodents and bugs love bedding and clothing just as much as paper. Even if you get your garage treated for the bugs, you may end up with destroyed clothing.
4. Fresh or Canned Food
You probably wouldn’t think about storing fresh food for yourself in this area, but you might have pet food or birdseed in storage. Even these types of food can invite bugs and rodents into your house. Removing food sources from your home is important. If you must store these things in your garage, put them in an airtight container.

It is just as important that you don’t store canned food in this area. Unless the temperatures in your garage are stable, your food will spoil. If the temps in your garage get over 90 degrees, it can make the food inside of the cans go bad.
5. Refrigerator
Many people put an extra refrigerator out in their garage. While it seems like a good idea, you will have a hard time keeping your food from going bad. Even though it is in the fridge, the rising temps will make a shorter shelf life for your fresh foods.
6. Any Kind of Electronic
Unless you simply do not care about a certain electronic, you shouldn’t store them in the garage. The changing temperatures and moisture can destroy computers, televisions, and more. If you don’t have a place for these things, it is best to donate them.
